That’s right, the Alabama Legislature is back at it. Again.
According to this article, three anti-abortion bills will be brought to the floor for debate on Thursday, March 16, 2017. It’s the Legislature’s annual anti-choice day, and they are set on restricting YOUR constitutional right to an abortion…one bill would put a constitutional amendment on the next ballot to COMPLETELY BAN abortion in the State of Alabama. No, we’re not kidding. It’s that dangerous.
Alabama women need to SHOW UP IN MONTGOMERY on Thursday and hold these lawmakers accountable for their votes. Sit in the people’s gallery and SHOW them that we are not just a number, we are not statistics. We are the 1 in 3 women who will have an abortion in their lifetime. We are tired of Alabama politicians playing “gynotician” with our healthcare.
If you’re not located in Montgomery and would like to ride down from Birmingham, Planned Parenthood Southeast is renting a van and organizing carpools. Please contact Spencer at: [email protected] if you need a ride or carpool options.
If you are in Tuscaloosa, our friends with West Alabama Clinic Defenders plan on coming down as well. Contact them on Facebook here to coordinate a ride or carpool.
Plan to be here in Montgomery around 9AM-10AM to get briefed by our friends at Planned Parenthood Southeast. From there, you’ll go to the gallery to watch the Legislature vote. If you can make this event, please let the folks at PP know by using this event link so they can plan adequately.
Due to extenuating circumstances, Mia will not be at the Legislature for this, so plan to meet up with the awesome folks with PP. However; the POWER House will be open and available for a much needed respite from “State House Shenanigans” all day. Here is a map & directions of how to get to the POWER House from the Alabama State House. You can park behind the house (access to the right side of the house) or in the clinic lot next door. Text or call us if you need to – (334) 549-8606. We’ll have some snacks & bottled water on hand for you to enjoy. You can also drop off any donations of menstrual products for the women at Julia Tutwiler prison while you’re in town.
Leave us a comment below or contact us on Facebook if you have any questions or we can help you in any way. See you at the State House!

[…] In addition to the Alabama Legislature attacking women’s constitutional rights, they will also be debating HB24, which would allow adoption agencies to discriminate against LGBTQ* people with no consequences on Thursday, March 16, 2017. This kind of legislation is not who we are as Alabamians, and we cannot stand for hate in our state. From HRC: “Tomorrow has been dubbed “pro-life day” in the House, and H.B. 24 is 4th on the agenda for House business tomorrow. Speaker Mac McCutcheon has said that the they will not recess for spring break tomorrow until all legislation on the agenda has been passed.” […]
